Sunshine Blogger Award // In which I’m very indecisive…but what’s new?

Hi everyone! 💗 I hope that October has been treating you well!

I know this is my first blog post in two weeks; life has been extremely stressful for me lately. I’m struggling to balance school, college apps, reading, and blogging all at the same time, and my mental health definitely isn’t the best right now. Reading, writing blog posts, and blog hopping helps me relax and destress, though, so I don’t want to sacrifice my reading and blogging time for homework, even though sometimes I have to :’)

Sorry for this random (and negative) rant; I just needed to let this out. I love you all, and remember that your mental health and well-being matters! It’s always okay to take a break and do the things you love. 💞

Anyway, let’s get to the point of this post! I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the amazing Amber @ ambsreads! Thank you so much for the nomination, Amber! It means so much to me. 😊 You should check out Amber’s blog if you haven’t already; her book reviews and discussions are always great.

Amber’s Questions

1. What is the post you’re most proud of on your blog?

Probably my last post, which was a review for Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills! That book was absolutely incredible, and I think I managed to convey my endless love for it in that post. 💞 You guys also showed me so much love and left so many sweet comments! You’re the best. 💖 I’m so happy that my review convinced a lot of you to read Foolish Hearts! (I’m also very proud of the fact that I included three relevant B99 gifs in my review. Hehe. 😊)

I also had lots of fun writing my 20 Questions Book Tag post! I loved writing responses to all of the questions, and I think I really developed my blogging voice with that post. You guys should check out both of these posts if you haven’t already! 😉💗

2. What is the book you wish you could shove in everyone’s faces?

Honestly, all my favorite books, lmao. I have so much love for each and every one of them. 😍 Please click the link right now and add all of my favorite books to your TBR!! I promise you won’t regret it…too much.

If I had to pick two, though (since I can’t pick just one), I’d say Autoboyography by Christina Lauren and The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Both of these books made me feel SO much and pretty much destroyed me emotionally. It was worth it, though. :’) They’re such incredible books and they’ll always have a special place in my heart. 💜💛

3. What is your favorite diverse read?

I’m sure you can see a recurring theme in my responses by now…I can’t choose just one answer to a question. :’) I’m literally the most indecisive person ever lmao. Also, I always try to read diverse and ownvoices books, so most of my favorite books are diverse! ☺️ But anyways, here are two of my favorite diverse reads:

294565981

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman had incredible Asian representation and portrayed social anxiety extremely well. I related to the Asian and anxiety rep so much. This book means the world to me, because it was the first time I truly saw myself in a book (in the main character, Kiko). Kiko is half-Asian (Japanese) and half-white, and although I can’t speak for the biracial representation (since I’m not biracial), the ownvoices reviews I’ve read say that it’s also very well-done! 🌟💜

36536433
I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman was so casually diverse, and I absolutely adored it! Angel Rahimi, one of the main characters, is a hijabi Muslim teenager, who is questioning but may be on the aro/ace spectrum. The other MC, Jimmy Kaga-Ricci, is gay and trans, who struggles with anxiety and is biracial (half-white, half-Indian). There was also so much diversity among the side characters! One of my favorite side characters was Bliss Lai, who is bisexual, biracial (Chinese and white), and atheist, which was honestly amazing to see!! I related to her a lot. 🎶🧡

4. What is your favorite controversial read?

Hmm…this is a hard question to answer! I can only think of Starfish right now, because I’ve read some reviews that said the abuse rep is problematic, because mental illness seems to be demonized in Kiko’s abusive mother. I love Starfish, but I still appreciated Elise’s review and reading her perspective on why she felt it was problematic in some aspects!

5. Do you own any bookish merchandise?

I have a Harry Potter wand (⚡️) from Universal Studios Hollywood that my sister got for me a while ago, but that’s pretty much it. I don’t own much bookish merchandise, which makes me sad. I definitely want to get a lot in the future, though! 📚

6. Describe your dream library!

I don’t have extremely high standards for my dream library (😇): I just want a room filled with all of my favorite books (and all 300+ books on my TBR 🙃) and comfy chairs & beanbags everywhere!! I’d also love it if time literally stopped whenever I read there, so I can read however long I’d like. Hey, this is a dream library; let me have my dreams. :’)

giphy
I’ve used this gif before, but honestly Belle’s library is my dream. Look at all of those books!! 😍

Page Break

7. What is a book you’re never going to touch (aka read)?

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. I know a lot of people loved it, but no thanks. Never even going near it. I’ve read many reviews on the racism and the perpetuation of Asian stereotypes in this book, and I can’t look past that, even if the romance was supposedly cute. ‘Nuff said.

8. What is something you wish you could tell your younger bookworm self?

Hm, I don’t know! I feel like my younger bookworm self freely read all the books she wanted to, without feeling obligated to read something she wasn’t in the mood for. My younger self definitely read more books than I do now, mostly because I had much more free time back then. 😂 (Life was so much simpler back then.)

I guess that I’d like to tell my younger bookworm self about Goodreads, because it is amazing for discovering new books to read. I didn’t start using Goodreads until last October, but I’m so happy I did. But then again, if I discovered Goodreads sooner, my TBR would be MUCH larger than it is now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Page Break

9. What is a book you wish you could read again for the first time?

I honestly just want to say “all my favorite books” again, haha (because it’s true!! it would be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING to be able to experience all the emotions and love I have for my favorites again, for the first time). If you told me to choose a few from my favorite books, I’d say Autoboyography and The Song of Achillesbut as you know, I already mentioned both books in a previous response. :’) do you see my struggle?? oops my indecisiveness is showing again

So, for the sake of not being repetitive, I’ll say the Percy Jackson & Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan!! (And I know I’m cheating by naming a book series, but this is my blog and I do what I want 😎) I’d love to read this amazing series again for the first time and fall in love with Greek mythology, Percy, Annabeth, Nico, Leo, and all the other demigods!! I have so much love for this series, ahhh. I’ve reread PJO/HOO many times, but it’ll never be the same as the first time I fell in love with this series. 😭💙

My two favorite books in my two favorite series!!

Page Break

10. Is there a book you think would suit a movie style better (scandalous I know)?

Haha maybe you can guess my answer to this question?? …yes, it’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. (If you haven’t already, read my less-than-stellar review of it here!) I was bored for most of the book, and I thought the movie was much more interesting and brought the characters to life better than the book did. The movie was more fast-paced and kept me engaged, and had more cute moments, in my opinion. I also loved the aesthetics and vibes of the movie (I want Lara Jean’s room)! 😍

11. What’s your favorite thing about having a book blog?

I know everyone says this, but the book blogging community is honestly my favorite thing about being a book blogger. I’m so happy I made the decision to start a book blog back in June (four months ago, oh my gosh), because if I didn’t, I would’ve never met all of you wonderful human beings. 💞 I love blog hopping and interacting with you guys. You all are so supportive, kind, and uplifting, and all of your comments and love always make my day! 💓 Our community is the best.

  1. Ah thank you so much for the nomination Dezzy! I’m honored ❤ I read Eleanor & Park before hearing about how problematic it was and it was…not my favorite. I don't think you're missing out by skipping it! Rainbow Rowell has other books that are much better, in my opinion. And I'm so glad you liked I Was Born for This—I am so excited to read that one!

  2. It’s always complicated to juggle between classes, everything you have to do and blogging. Take care of yourself and don’t put too much pressure on yourself Dezzy ❤ ❤ ❤
I really liked reading your answers here! I have Autoboyography on my TBR and am hoping to read it…. well, sometime haha, hopefully soon, it sounds really great 🙂 I'm also really happy you mentioned Starfish and I Was Born For This, I adored both of these books SO much ❤ ❤ And Belle's library IS THE DREAM. ❤

Ahh thank you so much!! I’m SO excited for you to read Autoboyography; I really hope you love it because it gave me all the feels and the romance was amazingly written (even though there’s insta-love). And yesss, I’ll always love Starfish and IWBFT 💗 Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Marie! ❤️

I am so impatient to read it, hopefully I’ll get around to it soon 😀

Oh man, I also wish I could read Percy Jackson for the first time…those books make me so happy! But at the same time I’m glad that I know them so well now, so I guess I’ll have to be content with that. Good luck with school, and make sure to take some time to do the things you love!

THANK YOU SM FOR TAGGING ME, BBY, this tag is so sweet and i love love love your answers so much. first off, might i say you have excellent taste in books like starfish and percy jackson 👌👌👌

i miss my pjo kids and this post is making me wanna reread (even tho i still have blood of Olympus to read, rip) i heard the song of achilles shatters your soul and that just sounds amazing i really need to get a move on it

also your disclaimer in the beginning i was like ‘QUEEEEEEN’ its so important to remember that you dont gotta force yourself when it comes to blogging and reading and all that fun ish bc its supposed to be the highlight of our day but sometimes i can just be exhausting and its so important to practice some self care and take some time off (hence why i constantly ghost on my blog,,,,,maybe im more on the lazy size tho lol)

anyways, you take care of yourself b, and even tho life sucks sometimes we gotta do it and its important to put yourself first (but dont ditch me for too long bc ill cry without you and your cupcake energy) ❤ ❤ ❤

ahhh of course!! you’re the first person that i thought of to nominate for this post, bc i love you and your blog sm 💞 YES U HAVE AMAZING TASTE IN BOOKS TOO FOR LOVING STARFISH AND PERCY JACKSON 💙 omg same i want to reread pjo/hoo so badly now, lmao. i miss my demigod kids :’) and omggg you really should read the blood of olympus!! although it’s not the best book in the series, we (finally) get nico’s perspective in this book AND I LOVE HIM SO MUCH

and omg yes the song of achilles absolutely DESTROYED me but i love madeline miller for it. it’s such an incredible book and i’m so excited for you to read it and hurt as much as i did ; ) ❤️ have you read circe by madeline miller?? (i haven’t yet but i really want to)

  6. Thanks so much for the tag Dezzy, I can’t wait to answer the questions you set as well. When it comes to books I’ll recommend The Song of Achilles is definitely one of them, that book broke my heart and made me feel so many different things but I’ll recommend it to literally everyone. Same goes for Autoboyography. I discovered that thanks to the WordPress blogging community and it’s actually one of my favourite reads of this year for sure. 😀
Belle’s library is also my dream (there’s a few reasons Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite Disney films, and that library is one of them), and oh I’ve heard a few mixed things about Eleanor and Park. It’s still on my TBR list but it’s near the bottom. Maybe one day I’ll get around to it, maybe I won’t.
Great answers for all these questions, and again thanks for the tag. 🙂 ❤

I loved reading your answers. I’m going to check out Autoboyography and The Song of Achilles soon! I’ve heard great things about both and I’m glad you love them so much.

I also wish I knew about Goodreads when I was younger. I only discovered Goodreads two years ago in 2016 lol. I think that’s why my TBR is so massive and I feel like I’m catching up to where most people are at.

Can’t wait to answer your questions!!! 😀

Aww I’m so glad you enjoyed reading my answers! That makes me so happy omg; I really hope you’ll love Autoboyography and TSOA as much as I did 😍 And haha I relate so much, my TBR is so large and will never stop growing 😂

  8. HANG IN THERE DEZZY ❤ School is rough, especially during college apps time so definitely make time to take care of yourself 🙂 I totally relate that blogging and reading helps me relax, but I always feel guilty for sacrificing homework time. It's a journey figuring out the perfect balance.

I love your answers for this tag!! I actually really want to read Starfish, and now, you have me even more excited for the asian representation and anxiety rep 🙂 Percy Jackson is always a classic too. The Last Olympian is also my favorite, but I'd rank Mark of Athena over House of Hades hehe 😉

    • Ahhh thank you SO much, Tiffany!! Your support means the world 💖 Oh definitely haha, it’s a struggle finding the right balance between work and relaxation/laziness 😂

Awww thank you so much! Yesss I’m so excited for you to read Starfish; I hope you’ll love it as much as I did! 💜 And haha I really enjoyed The Mark of Athena as well (but not that cliffhanger ending, omg). Thank you so much for this lovely comment 💞

  9. UGH WHENEVER I READ YOUR POSTS I’M ALWAYS SMILING HOW ARE YOU THIS SWEET

first of all thank you so much for the nomination you are literally the best!! second of all, I love and agree with pretty much all your answers here. I LOVED Autoboyography and TSOA too — they’re literally amazing and I cry inside whenever I think about them. third, being able to read the PJO series for the first time would be so amazing?? like I honestly teared up during my reread of the series because I missed the characters so much and to read it and meet them for the first time again… 💓💓

and fourth, I totally feel you on the stress thing! reading and writing definitely are destressors for me, but whenever I think about how I’m NOT doing those things, because I do school work, I get stressed out. but whenever I actually read and write, I get stressed out over neglecting my school work. it’s an endless, rough cycle… BUT I BELIEVE IN YOU and you blog at your own pace! (I need to follow my own advice honestly lmao)

    • AWWW MAY YOU’RE SUCH A KIND AND AMAZING FRIEND ILY 💞 I feel the same way after reading your posts!!

Omg that makes me so happy!! I have so much love for Autoboyography and TSOA 😭💗 they’re incredible. And omg same, I love all the PJO/HOO characters so much and now I really want to reread the series lmao (even though I have no time :’) )

Ahhh omg I relate to that SO. FREAKING. MUCH. 😩 Whenever I’m working, I’m stressed, but whenever I’m not working, I’m stressed too because I’m thinking of all the work that I have to do. Agreed, it’s definitely an endless cycle, ugh. I’m stressed about being stressed :’) But AAHH THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Your support & kindness means so much to me 💖 Same goes to you!! Remember to always put your mental health and happiness first 💓

  10. Awww, thank you so much for nominating me! ❤

Oooh, Song of Achilles, I still need to read that! I've read Circe by Madeline Miller and really enjoyed it. Have you read Circe yet? If not, I would totally recommend it!

And yesss, Belle's library is goals. 😍

Also, I totally agree that breaks are important. My semester has also been super busy and though it pains me to cut back on my blogging, I know it's necessary for my sanity.
I hope life gets less stressful for you and that your mental health improves!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Of course! 💞

I haven’t read Circe yet, but I really want to! I’ve been waiting for it to arrive at my library for ages now, haha, I’m like #100 in line for it. It’s a very popular book 😂 (which is understandable) I loved Madeline Miller’s gorgeous writing in The Song of Achilles and I can’t wait to experience it again in Circe. You should definitely read The Song of Achilles when you get a chance; it’s incredible and heartbreaking.

I’m glad you’re putting your mental health first! ☺️ And thank you so much, that means a lot! Thank you so much for this lovely comment 💖

      Liked by 1 person

      • Oooh, I so went through the same experience trying to get a hold of a copy of Circe! I requested it at the very beginning of summer and didn’t get it until the very end (so I had to wait like 3.5 months) 😅 I hope you don’t have to wait too long, tho yikes, yeah #100 might mean it will take awhile! 😕

And yess, Song of Achilles is definitely on my TBR!

        Thanks! And of course!

  11. Ahhhh thank you for the nomination!! *hugs* When you mentioned Starfish my heart just exploded into a million pieces like YAS. The asian and anxiety rep was so on point Kiko my dear child ❤ I know that this isn't a book rec post, but still, I've added so many books to my tbr and I'm so excited to read them – thank you!! (I mean we all know that I'm drowning in my tbr list like why should I be excited when I'll never finish them all lmao) Belle's library is THE DREAM just swallow me up whole XD Juggling blogging and life and everything else is a handful, isn't it? I'm currently dying in stress from school and life, like the first term is already almost over?? I'm so glad you took some time to take a smol break – you and your health come before anything else. I hope that you'll feel better soon, and take care of yourself! You're not alone *hugs again* If you ever need a place to rant, I'm always here if you want 🙂

I’m currently a junior in high school right now, so watching all the seniors stress out over apps is making me nervous for next year… but in order to stay sane, I think it’s best for me to take it step by step and take the SAT before worrying about college apps 😊

I absolutely adore Autoboyography — that book made my heart melt into a puddle, it was so beautiful. 😍 I enjoyed reading your answers to this award!

    • Aww thank you so much, Zoie! I’m almost done with college apps now (thank goodness, haha); I’m so glad this process is almost over. And although it is a stressful process, as long as you manage your time well (it’s a good idea to start them the summer before senior year) and just focus on one essay at a time, you’ll be fine! And you’ll get through it. ☺️ Good luck with the SAT, btw!

Omg yes, I love Autoboyography with all my heart, and I’m so glad you do too!! Thank you so much for reading, and for this lovely comment. Your support means the world 💓
