Birthday Book Tag // Oh my gosh I’m getting so old!! 😉

Hi everyone! 🌟

Yes, today is my birthday!! 🙈🎉 (And yes, this year, my birthday coincidentally fell on the day of daylight savings. My birthday is 25 hours long 😂)

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while, but (this is past Dezzy speaking) I just realized that my birthday is coming up, and so I decided to do the Birthday Book Tag! 🎂

I first saw this tag over on Tiffany’s blog, Read by Tiffany, when she posted this on her birthday back in September! It looked like such a cute and fun tag, and so I decided to do it too, as it seemed fit for the occasion, hehe.

I honestly can’t believe it’s my birthday already! I know I always say this, but time flies by way too quickly. There’s only two months of 2018 left?! That can’t be right. :’) i’m going to be graduating high school in 2019 and it’s honestly blows my mind that 2019 IS ALMOST HERE oh my goshhh

ANYWAY. Excuse my mini existential crisis. 😂 i’m always like this around the time of my birthday. But without further ado, let’s get started with this tag!! 🎁

Birthday Cake 🎂 A book with a plot that seems cliché but you adore it anyway 💞

25486998
I read P.S. I Like You by Kasie West in one sitting, about a year ago! It was such a fast and addicting read, and it made me feel all happy and gooey inside. 💖  There isn’t much diversity and there aren’t any important messages in P.S. I Like You – it’s purely a ‘feel good’ book. It was lighthearted and adorable, and although it was cliché at times, I enjoyed myself immensely reading this cutesy book. I really loved the romance, friendships, and family dynamics in P.S. I Like You. If you’re ever in the mood for a cute, predictable, and sweet YA contemporary romance, definitely check out this book! ☺️

You know, now that I’m thinking about it, I was actually in a Kasie West mood exactly a year ago and I read like six of her books in a row 😂 I remember squealing and smiling so much as I read her books. I’m feeling nostalgic now aahh 😭💗

Party Guests 🎊 Your most anticipated book release this year 😍

34433755

Omg who am I if I don’t say Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan?? (It’s coming out in two days!! Oh my gosh!! I CANNOT WAIT.) 💓 I’ve heard nothing but praise and adoration for this book, and I just know that I’m going to love it as much as everyone does. if i don’t, you all have my permission to smack some sense into me : )

An ownvoices Asian-inspired fantasy? A slow-burn f/f romance? Amazing world-building? I’ve heard that this book has it all, and I’m so incredibly excited to read this gorgeous book (with an equally gorgeous cover to match 😍)!!

Oh, and sidenote, this book comes out on the same day as the U.S. midterm elections (November 6th), so if you are an American citizen, please VOTE (blue)!! It’s extremely important to vote, especially this year under the current U.S. administration. *sigh* So please, go vote as a birthday gift for me!! I’d greatly appreciate it. 💙

Birthday Presents 🎁 A book that surprised you with how much you loved it 😱

Ha, if you thought that I could get through one post without being indecisive, YOU’RE WRONG. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ Both The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng completely blew my expectations out of the water. They’re beautifully written and compelling books, and I adore both so much!

32620332
I started The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo with incredibly high expectations, since I saw so many people raving about it. Although it started off slow, I was COMPLETELY blown away by the end of the book. Taylor Jenkins Reid crafted such a complex, gorgeous, and emotional book, entrancing her readers with the strong and dazzling character that is Evelyn Hugo. I was so enraptured by Evelyn’s story as a bisexual Cuban Hollywood actress, and I was so excited to follow it till the end. 😭 (I think this is my first adult book as well!)

On the other hand, I read Everything I Never Told You without having many expectations, but Celeste Ng didn’t let me down. At all. I’m amazed at much how I enjoyed this book. Set in the 1970s, Everything I Never Told You is about a Chinese American family, siblings, love, misogyny, racism, and so much more. I love Celeste Ng’s writing; it was haunting, beautiful, and emotional all at once. And not to mention, the character development for all of the characters was one of the best I’ve ever seen. 💗

The Happy Birthday Song 🎶 A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got 👏🏼

11250317

The Song of Achilles
by Madeline Miller was the first book I thought of when I saw this prompt, which should tell you how much I love this book. (Hint: A LOT.) I only read this book last month, but oh my gosh, it has earned its place in my favorite books of all time. 💞  Almost every blogger and reviewer I knew rated this book at least 4 stars. It truly deserves all the hype (and more), because this book absolutely destroyed me. The pain was worth it though, because now I can die happy, knowing true love is real. I LOVE PATROCLUS AND ACHILLES SO MUCH. 😭❤️ Madeline Miller has blessed us with this beautiful book and her gorgeous writing. ✨

Happy Music 😊 A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes 🤩

I’m going to let the books speak for themselves! yes, I said books; I’m being indecisive again :’)

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (I know I literally just talked about this in the previous prompt, but Madeline Miller is the queen of beautiful quotes)

“The never-ending ache of love and sorrow. Perhaps in some other life I could have refused, could have torn my hair and screamed, and made him face his choice alone. But not in this one. He would sail to Troy and I would follow, even into death. “Yes,” I whispered. ‘Yes.'”

“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”

wow guess who feels like crying again after reading these quotes 💔

Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake (Read my gushing review of it here!)

“How was Ivy supposed to handle all these feelings for June, all these feelings at all, if everything she saw and read about and heard about was all boy-girl, girl-boy?”

“A girl who was sure about who she was. A girl who wasn’t afraid or ashamed, even if a time came again when she wasn’t sure so anymore. Because Ivy knew that wondering was what life was about. Wondering was how you found yourself.”

Sweet Birthday Memories 💖 A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life 💫

I’m taking a page out of Tiffany’s book (hehe i love book puns) and I’m going to say the Percy Jackson & Heroes of Olympus series!

I’ve said this countless times, but this series has been with me for as long as I can remember, and it’ll always have a special place in my heart. 💙 Rick Riordan created some of my favorite characters of all time, and I love them all so much, especially Percy, Nico, and Leo.

tenor
A world without Percy Jackson would truly be the Bad Place. (And yes I’m obsessed with The Good Place now 😌)

Before I end this post, I want to mention the books that my mom let me order as a birthday gift to myself, hehe. I ordered A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi, Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan (of course), and Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria! 📚 I’m SO excited to read them all, along with The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy and What If It’s Us (which I still haven’t read even though I’ve had them for a while, whoops).

I also ordered a set of brush pens (Sakura Pigma brush pens) since I’ve been into calligraphy and hand lettering lately. 🙂 I already own the Tombow Dual Brush Pens and I love them!

Page BreakAhhh, writing this post was so fun because I got to talk about more of my favorite books (and flawlessly incorporate a gif from The Good Place in the process). 😉💓

Thank you so much for reading!! As always, your support and kindness for my blog and me means the world. I hope you all will have a wonderful day today!! Enjoy your extra hour by reading or sleeping. 📖💤 (I will definitely be doing the latter, and then, I’ll be going to an amusement park with a few friends and family. ☺️)

What is a book you adore that’s a little cliché and predictable? Your most anticipated release of this year? (Even though there are only two months left, lol.) Let me know if I’ve convinced you to read any of the books I mentioned, or if you’ve read them already!!

What’s your favorite TV show? Do you love The Good Place as well? (You should, it’s INCREDIBLE.)

I hope you’ll have a fantastic November!! 🍂💓 Good luck with NaNoWriMo if you’re doing it!! (I believe in you.) 📝

And if you’re an American citizen, please remember to VOTE on November 6th!! Our futures (quite literally) depend on it.

  2. HOLY FORKING SHIRT 😉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEZZY!!! I loved doing this tag when it was my birthday, so I’m super happy you had so much fun doing it too. Is it crazy to think that all the books you’ve listed are on my TBR or I already love?? I’m super determined to finish a Kasie West book before the end of the year, and I’ve heard such great things about Girls of Paper and Fire!

I’m so excited for all the great things you’ll accomplish. ❤ And yes, graduating high school will be scary, but college is super fun and helps you grow a lot as a person! also 100% to voting!! I love that you're championing this important cause on your blog. 🙂 I hope you had a wonderful day and got to eat a bunch of cake and celebrate the greatness of ~yourself~

    • AHHHH IT MAKES ME SO FORKING HAPPY THAT YOU WATCH THE GOOD PLACE TOO (hehe)!! Thank you SO much Tiffany!! 💗 I remember that I absolutely loved reading your birthday tag post, so of course I had to do it too. And omg that’s amazing!! (You have great taste in books 😉) You should definitely read P.S. I Like You as your first (?) Kasie West book; it’s my favorite one of hers.

Awww thank you so much, Tiffany!! Your support honestly means the world to me. 😭 Yes I’m actually pretty excited for college, haha (even though I’m a little nervous about having so much independence 😅) and I definitely want to become a better person in college. And ahhh that makes me so happy to hear!! Voting is so important, especially today, and I just want to encourage as many people as I can to vote (since I can’t myself, yet). Thank you again for this lovely comment! It really made my day 💞

  3. Happy birthday Dezzy! ❤ I hope you've had a brilliant day and made the most of the fact that your birthday fell on daylight savings so you got an extra hour (seems kind of strange to me because here in the UK our daylight savings was last weekend!) 😀
These are some great picks for this tag too, I really love P.S. I Like You. Yes it's a little cliche, but it's still my favourite of all of Kasie West's books, also The Song of Achilles is definitely 100% worthy of all the hype. In fact I'd even go as far as saying it deserves more hype than it currently has.
Great post, and again happy birthday! 🙂 ❤

omg yes i’m so glad you agree!! ikr, honestly all kasie west books are so cute and fluffy and never fail to make me feel all squishy inside :’)

haha i’m honestly not that good yet, but because of practice, i’ve definitely improved A LOT from when i first started, lmao. this is gonna sound cliche but honestly it’s true: practice makes perfect. you just gotta practice A LOT and keep going at it, don’t give up!! ❤️ i watched a lot of youtube videos (mostly by amanda rach lee) on hand lettering/calligraphy and i also watched a lot of tutorials and videos on studygrams and bujograms. they helped a lot!! (but i agree oml, hand lettering is hard AF and i get so jealous seeing other people’s beautiful hand lettering, i could never get to that level :’) )

awww thank you so much for this amazing comment as always!! wishing you the best for november ☺️

As for quick reads, Love and Gelato is one of my favorite fluffy contemporaries in the whole world, and it’s set in ITALY!?!
I’m doing Nano this year, and it’s…. kind of a mess, but I have hope!

  7. ahhhhhh HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEZZY!! ❤ ❤ This post is the cutest and I love it so much. Also having a mini existential crisis on birthdays is so relatable, like this also happens to me every year hahaha😂

I cannot get over how good Girls of Paper and Fire sounds?! I'm seriously not prepared for how incredible it's going to be. And also these TSOA quotes are going to make me cry again oh my gosh whyyyy did that book have to destroy us😭 I'm glad it was one we bonded (and cried) over and basically the root of our friendship but I'm STILL NOT OVER IT.

I mean, any post with books will always catch my attention, but your blog has tons of it, so…. 😉 I’ve seen all the rave for TSOA, and it’s one of the top ones on my tbr list. I’ve also been meaning to read GOPAF for the longest time, but my local library doesn’t have it yet 😭 Have you read the Three Dark Crowns series by Kendare Blake? The third book was released last month, I believe, and I am SO excited to read it like a;ldfja;ldkj

Anyways, loved reading this, added so many new books to my tbr (I mean I should stop but apparently I don’t take orders from myself), and I really hope that you had an amazing day ❤ you deserve it.

I loved reading this tag — and I’ve noticed you’ve mentioned The Song of Achilles quite a few times in your posts now. Is it truly that amazing of a book? I’ve been reading a lot of nonfiction and classics lately, so I’m in the mood for something else — is The Song of Achilles worth dropping all other books to read? 😊
