Hi everyone! 💓
Welcome back to my blog, where I’ll be screaming about five books that won’t be released until next year (otherwise known as my most anticipated 2019 releases)! 🙃 It’s never too early to start talking about 2019 releases, right? (2019 seems so far away now, because I want to read these books SO BADLY already. 😭)
By the way, if you haven’t already, you should check out my Most Anticipated Fall 2018 Releases post to see the last time I ranted about the passage of time. :’)
I became inspired to write this post after reading Lily’s #Novel19s Book Recommendations post! You should definitely check out Lily’s post if you haven’t already, because she does a wonderful job convincing you to add more books to your probably overflowing TBR. 😉 I hope I’ll do the same with this post. 👀
1. You Asked for Perfect by Laura Silverman
Senior Ariel Stone is the perfect college applicant: first chair violin, dedicated community volunteer, and expected valedictorian. He works hard – really hard – to make his life look effortless. A failed Calculus quiz is not part of that plan. Not when he’s number one. Not when his peers can smell weakness like a freshman’s body spray.
Figuring a few all-nighters will preserve his class rank, Ariel throws himself into studying. His friends will understand if he skips a few plans, and he can sleep when he graduates. Except Ariel’s grade continues to slide. Reluctantly, he gets a tutor. Amir and Ariel have never gotten along, but Amir excels in Calculus, and Ariel is out of options.
Ariel may not like Calc, but he might like Amir. Except adding a new relationship to his long list of commitments may just push him past his limit.
AHHHH I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK Y’ALL, YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW. 😍 The synopsis makes it sound so good!! A book about a stressed-out student who strives for perfection, along with a m/m romance? I NEED THIS BOOK. it’s absolutely UNFAIR that this won’t be out until march 2019
I’ve read some glowing reviews of You Asked for Perfect already, which has only increased my excitement to read it. This sounds like such an incredible, real, and relatable book for me, especially since it’s about a senior in high school applying to colleges. (I’m literally in the same boat right now, and it’s very, very stressful. 😩 lmao i love being both a procrastinator & perfectionist!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) As you should know, I absolutely adore relatable contemporaries, since I love seeing myself reflected in a book, so I just know that I’ll love this book. March 2019 has never seemed so far away!!
OMG I JUST REALIZED THE unintentional? CALCULUS PUN IN THE LAST SENTENCE OF THE SYNOPSIS 😂🤦🏻♀️ *ahem* anyways. carry on.
2. Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills
For Sophie, small-town life has never felt small. She has the Yum Yum Shoppe, with its famous fourteen flavors of ice cream; her beloved marching band, the pride and joy of Acadia High (even if the football team disagrees); and her four best friends, loving and infuriating, wonderfully weird and all she could ever ask for.
Then August moves in next door. A quiet guy with a magnetic smile, August seems determined to keep everyone at arm’s length. Sophie in particular.
Country stars, revenge plots, and a few fake kisses (along with some excellent real ones) await Sophie in this hilarious, heartfelt story.
I LOVE EMMA MILLS. She’s literally the queen of contemporaries (lmao I say this even though I’ve only read one of her books, Foolish Hearts), but Foolish Hearts is honestly one of the best contemporaries I’ve ever read. It’s so delightful and real. It’s truly a ray of sunshine and gave me so much joy. Aahhh I’ll never stop screaming about how much I adored this book – the friendships, the romance, the characters, everything!! 💓 (If you want to continue reading about my love of this book, check out my review of Foolish Hearts here!)
I have no doubt in Emma Mills’ ability to create compelling, lovable characters; I can’t wait to see this in Famous in a Small Town. Friendships and romance seem like they’re going to be a large part of this book, which I LOVE. I don’t know how I can survive the two months until this book is released!! Can someone please do me a favor and fast forward time to January 15, 2019? It’d be greatly appreciated. ☺️
Also, how lovely is this cover?! Emma Mills’ book covers are honestly the cutest. 😍
3. The Toll by Neal Shusterman
no cover or synopsis yet : ( THIS DOESN’T DECREASE MY EXCITEMENT FOR THIS BOOK THOUGH
Just realized that The Toll is the only non-contemporary book I’m talking about in this post, haha. (It’s sci-fi.) all the other books I’ve mentioned & will talk about are contemporaries. wow i love exposing myself as the contemporary trash i truly am : )
ANYWAY. The Toll is the third book in the Arc of a Scythe series, and if you haven’t read Scythe or Thunderhead yet (the first & second books), you’re missing out. In this thought-provoking series, Neal Shusterman has created and developed a “utopian” world that feels so realistic, it’s scary. The world-building is truly out of this world. please appreciate my lame puns
I absolutely loved Scythe and Thunderhead, and even though I finished Thunderhead way back in January, I’m still shook over the ending of Thunderhead. 🤯 Neal Shusterman really knows how to execute unexpected plot twists and cliffhangers. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. I hope we’ll get a synopsis for this book soon smh, we deserve that much at the very least
4. I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver
When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they’re thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husband, Thomas, whom Ben has never even met. Struggling with an anxiety disorder compounded by their parents’ rejection, they come out only to Hannah, Thomas, and their therapist and try to keep a low profile in a new school.
But Ben’s attempts to survive the last half of senior year unnoticed are thwarted when Nathan Allan, a funny and charismatic student, decides to take Ben under his wing. As Ben and Nathan’s friendship grows, their feelings for each other begin to change, and what started as a disastrous turn of events looks like it might just be a chance to start a happier new life.
At turns heartbreaking and joyous, I Wish You All the Best is both a celebration of life, friendship, and love, and a shining example of hope in the face of adversity.
This book sounds incredible!! I Wish You All the Best is an ownvoices book with a nonbinary MC!! I’ve never read a book with an enby main character before, which is sad – that needs to change! We need more books with nonbinary, genderfluid, and non-cis characters. I’m so excited to read I Wish You All the Best and love & support it with all of my being. 💞
5. Our Year of Maybe by Rachel Lynn Solomon
Aspiring choreographer Sophie Orenstein would do anything for Peter Rosenthal-Porter, who’s been on the kidney transplant list as long as she’s known him. Peter, a gifted pianist, is everything to Sophie: best friend, musical collaborator, secret crush. When she learns she’s a match, donating a kidney is an easy, obvious choice. She can’t help wondering if after the transplant, he’ll love her back the way she’s always wanted.
But Peter’s life post-transplant isn’t what either of them expected. Though he once had feelings for Sophie too, he’s now drawn to Chase, the guitarist in a band that happens to be looking for a keyboardist. And while neglected parts of Sophie’s world are calling to her—dance opportunities, new friends, a sister and niece she barely knows—she longs for a now-distant Peter more than ever, growing increasingly bitter he doesn’t seem to feel the same connection.
Peter fears he’ll forever be indebted to her. Sophie isn’t sure who she is without him. Then one blurry, heartbreaking night twists their relationship into something neither of them recognizes, leading them to question their past, their future, and whether their friendship is even worth fighting for.
Wow.
Doesn’t this book sound absolutely amazing??
I really enjoyed Rachel Lynn Solomon’s debut, You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone, so I’m very excited to read more of her work. Our Year of Maybe has bi rep, and according to the author, Peter identifies as bisexual from the very beginning! 😍 And even though there’s a love triangle, there’s no cheating. This sounds like such an intriguing, messy, and genuine contemporary, and I’m honestly so hyped to read this!!
If you want to see the rest of my anticipated 2019 releases, click here to see my 2019 releases shelf on Goodreads! I’m continuously adding more and more books to that shelf, because I love to make myself suffer. :’)

The Toll is definitely one of my most anticipated releases!! I STILL haven’t gotten over that ending (I cried. A LOT.) and I can’t wait to read the next book!! Alas, if only a synopsis would be released soon…
However, my new most anticipated release is now You Asked For Perfect!! Not only is the cover gorgeous, it’s about a perfectionist who pulls too many all nighters like me?!?! Also, I got the calculus pun. 😂
I haven’t read Emma Mills yet… but I’m trying to read one of her books soon!
