Hii everyone!! 🌟
If you didn’t know (which you probably don’t bc i don’t think i’ve ever mentioned it on my blog before lmao), I, like so many in the online book community, LOVE Taylor Swift. I wasn’t active on my blog when folklore was released in July, but rest assured, I was freaking out and losing my mind on twitter just like the rest of you were. And I still hadn’t gotten over folklore (still haven’t tbh) when Taylor announced she was releasing an ENTIRE SECOND ALBUM, evermore, on December 11, 2020. like oMG ASDKFJSDLJF ???????
Okay I don’t know why I’m narrating all of this when most of you know what I’m talking about and probably went through the same emotional rollercoaster as me, haha. But hey, what can I say…..I honestly still cannot believe Taylor blessed us with TWO. ENTIRE. ALBUMS. in 2020 ?!!???!?!!? she really singlehandedly saved 2020,, love that for her (and us) 😌 And the timing of these albums being released, both of them, were honestly so perfect for me. I was struggling so much in both July and December, and somehow, the universe heard my pain – Taylor released folklore and evermore in those months?! 🤯 I’m truly so, so grateful for both of these albums – listening to these songs and Taylor’s voice really helped me get through some tough times and made me feel less alone 😭
Now that I’ve established how much I love Taylor + folklore + evermore, I’m super excited to be doing the Evermore Book Tag today!! ✨ i think i’m a little late to the game – ik evermore came out a month ago – but it’s fine :’) This is a wonderful tag created by Rhi @ marshmallow harmonies – thank you so much for tagging me! This tag combines two of my favorite things atm – books and evermore, so of course I had to do this 🤩 I’ve had evermore on repeat ever since it was released, and my favorite songs from the album are ’tis the damn season, dorothea, and champagne problems, but honestly, every single song is a bop!! Anyway, without further ado, let’s get started 🎶
- Link to the original creator and her post: Rhi @ marshmallow harmonies
- Tag at least 3 people.
- Declare the rules and list of prompts in your post (copy paste is fine!)
- Thank whoever who tagged you and link to their post.
- Pingback to original post so they’re all in one place to read
Life was a willow and it bent right to your wind 🎵
one of my favorite songs in the album!! love loveee the acoustic guitar chords, the vibes are immaculate ✨
There’s a lot of books that I could choose for this prompt (you all know i’m a sucker for romance), but I’ll go with a book that I read recently (this was actually my last book of 2020!) – The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. If I had to describe The Flatshare in one word, it would be cute. Like, oh my goodness, the m/f romance was actually so. freaking. adorable. 😭 and had me smiling from ear to ear. I was rooting for Tiffy and Leon so much; they are such different people yet are sooo compatible for each other. I loved the way they both helped each other grow and come out of their shells, in their own unique ways. Give me more healthy, supportive romantic relationships like the one in this book please 👀💕
If you’d like to read more of my thoughts on The Flatshare, feel free to check out my Goodreads review here!
Your heart was glass, I dropped it / Champagne problems 🎼
another favorite of the album!! 🤩 there’s something about champagne problems that just makes me so emotional :’)
I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not (I feel like I’ve seen a lot of differing opinions on this book?), but I’m going to choose Cinderella is Dead for this prompt. Okay, hate is a strong word – I certainly didn’t despise this book and the f/f romance – but I didn’t enjoy it either 😭 I feel like the romance was very rushed and underdeveloped, and it just didn’t make sense (same goes for the plot lmao askdjfd) Overall, I felt like the characters just ended up together out of convenience, not because they actually had any chemistry. I had such high hopes for this queer feminist Cinderella retelling, but unfortunately, it let me down :’) 👑👠💜
Everybody wants you / But I don’t like a gold rush 🎶
gold rush took a little while to grow on me, but now i absolutely love it. such sad. much yearning.
Haha again, I could think of SO MANY books that fit this prompt, but I’ll choose one that I just finished a few days ago (my first read of 2021 hehe): These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. I buddy read this with my lovely friend Iris @ Countless Words with Iris, and we both were blown away by this absolutely incredible YA historical fantasy / Romeo & Juliet retelling set in 1920s Shanghai. To be completely honest, when I first started this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it (I don’t usually read historical fantasy). However, Chloe Gong’s hauntingly beautiful writing captivated me and slowly drew me in, and sure enough, this book gradually made its way into my heart. As evidenced by the numerous keysmashes I sent to Iris as we were buddy reading, I would now do ANYTHING for Juliette and Roma (and Benedikt and Marshall, for that matter), and I seriously feel like there’s an emptiness where my heart used to be, after finishing this book 💔⚔️🌹
If you want to see more of my screaming over These Violent Delights, check out my Goodreads review here!
Now I’m missing your smile, hear me out / We could just ride around / And the road not taken looks real good now / And it always leads to you in my hometown 🎵
i know i said that i love every single song in evermore, but if i absolutely had to choose a top favorite song, ’tis the damn season would be it 👀
Due to my very bad memory that is practically nonexistent these days, I couldn’t think of any book that I have read that features fake dating, except for one that I didn’t really enjoy oops :’) it’s a very popular and well-loved book so i definitely have an unpopular opinion, but yeah i didn’t want to choose it for this prompt haha. So instead, I’m choosing Counting Down with You by Tashie Bhuiyan, a book that features fake dating that I have not read – but it’s coming out in May 2021 and I am so incredibly excited for it!! This book has a Bangladeshi-Muslim main character with anxiety, and is ownvoices, AND has fake dating. This sounds so fun and cute and I need this in my life already 😍
I know my love should be celebrated / But you tolerate it 🎼
those two lines of tolerate it hit me SO hard, every single time. i didn’t ask for my heart to hurt like this💔
I feel like I’ve been reading soooo many underrated / underhyped books lately, and I’m always going to try to hype up as many of them on my blog as I can!! Because they deserve alllll the support 🤩 Today, I’m going to talk about Wild and Crooked by Leah Thomas. Ohhhh my goodness, Wild and Crooked is such a beautiful and hard-hitting book. It really tugged at all my heartstrings and I’m just :’) so EMOTIONAL :’) This was a book I practically flew through, because once I started, I simply could not put it down. This book has a small-town murder mystery, family loyalty, unlikely friendships, and so many queer characters (both teens and adults)!! Truly, the heart of this book lies in the beautiful, supportive platonic relationship between the two queer main characters – Kalyn and Gus. They made my heart feel so full 😭💓 I highly recommend Wild and Crooked, especially if you’re looking for a diverse, hard-hitting contemporary mystery with fascinating characters and a message to never accept or limit yourself to what society thinks you are!! 🌈🍃🌸
You can read more of my thoughts on this book in my Goodreads review here.
I think he did it but I just can’t prove it / No, no body, no crime / But I ain’t letting up until the day I die 🎶
i know that no body, no crime is literally about a murder but i consider this song such a fun bop for some reason lmao
Okay, I know, I know. I’ve literally mentioned The Kyoshi Novels like in every single one of my recent posts lol why do y’all even follow my blog i just scream about the same books over and over aslkdjf, but y’know, it’s just because I canNOT express my love for these books enough 😭 I really enjoyed following the amazing, powerful Avatar Kyoshi’s tumultuous journey in becoming the Avatar and saving the world from a spiritual threat. The ending of The Shadow of Kyoshi absolutely destroyed me – it was perfect, and a very satisfying end to this intense duology. I can’t recommend The Kyoshi Novels enough – this is definitely a must-read if you’re an ATLA fan!! 👀🏔🔥
There’ll be happiness after you / But there was happiness because of you 🎵
for a song with “happiness” as the title, it sure is sad💔
For this prompt, my mind immediately went to It Sounded Better in my Head by Nina Kenwood. This book felt like a love letter to quiet, anxious, insecure, and introverted people who haven’t realized their own potential just yet. Who don’t see how truly amazing & wonderful people they are, and how loved & valued they are by people around them. In other words, reading this book felt like a big, warm hug to people like me. 💞 The main character, Natalie, was genuinely so. freaking. relatable. – reading from Natalie’s POV really felt like experiencing my own thoughts which i honestly didn’t need bc i’m already stuck in my brain 24/7 i don’t need mORE of that. but hey. i still loved this book a lot :’). This book takes place in the weird time period between graduating from high school and heading off to college, and this time of uncertainty can be quite scary and daunting for so many people – it sure was for me. I could resonate with Natalie and her friends’ concerns for the future, it really hit home :’)
And if you’re ever tired of being known / For who you know / You know, you’ll always know me 🎼
i love loveee this song,, Taylor singing songs with names as the title just hits different (i’m looking at you, betty and ivy 👀)
Books that feature wonderful, supportive friendships have a special place in my heart, and anything Alice Oseman writes is gold, in my opinion. Put them together, and you get Loveless by Alice Oseman. So it’s no surprise that I adored this heartwarming book that centers on the beautiful power of friendship and platonic relationships. The main character, Georgia, is aroace (aromantic asexual) and this book follows her journey of self-discovery and realizing that for her, her story isn’t about romantic love, which is 100% okay and valid. As someone who considers her friendships to be the most meaningful relationships in her life, I really appreciated how Loveless showed and celebrated that platonic relationships are just as important and beautiful as romantic ones. Aahhhh I love my friends so, so much (MY FRIENDS ARE THE BEST 😌 !!!!!!) and I’m so happy to have read a book that resonates with that sentiment 😭💓
Were you standing in the hallway / With a big cake, happy birthday / Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest gray? 🎶
this album rly b makin me even sadder than i already am huh
It’s been over two years since I read The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and still, not a day goes by without me thinking about Patroclus and Achilles. they’re rly living in my head rent free 😭 I definitely want to reread this sometime this year, because I want to experience Miller’s absolutely gorgeous prose and lyrical writing again, and lose myself in ancient Greece. And of course, have my heart broken and be emotionally destroyed by Patroclus and Achilles all over again :’) yes i hate myself. Seriously though, I love this book with all my heart and I’m long overdue for a reread. Catch me sometime this year crying over the ending of this book!! ☀️🛡💛
My house of stone, your ivy grows / And now I’m covered in you 🎵
i’m here for all the cottagecore vibes
I reread all three books of the Arc of a Scythe series in 2020 completely out of order lol but that’s besides the point and had my mind blown over Neal Shusterman’s brilliance yet again. The characters had to make SO many difficult choices throughout these three books, and the choice that Grayson Tolliver made near the end of The Toll hit me especially hard 💔 This is such a thought-provoking, emotional, and overall phenomenal series. ⚔️⛈⚡️
Never thought I’d meet you here / It could be love / We could be the way forward / And I know I’ll pay for it 🎼
lol this comment is completely unrelated to the song itself but every time i listen to cowboy like me, i think of cowboy in LA from LANY’s mama’s boy album lolol (which i also highly recommend y’all to go stream 👀)
Not to be cliche, but let’s be honest here – I obviously have to say Camp Half-Blood from the Percy Jackson series. Suuure, it could be scary, and i’d probably be the first to die on a quest, but come on, don’t tell me that you haven’t thought about hanging out at Camp Half-Blood, munching on strawberries while enjoying the sunshine, playing somewhat deadly Capture the Flag, and scaling the rock climbing wall before the lava gets to you. SO. MUCH. FUN. And I would absolutely love to hang out with Percy, Annabeth, Nico, and all my favorite demigods 😭⚡️🌊 a girl can dream
alternative choice for this prompt: the fictional world in Red, White & Royal Blue where the U.S. actually has a competent leader (President Ellen Claremont) and this country isn’t the mess it is now…… h a h a h a h a…….
Long story short, it was a bad time / Long story short, I survived 🎶
those two lyrics basically sum up the entirety of 2020 tbh
I could easily say Percy Jackson series for this prompt again, but since I already used those books for the last prompt, I’ll say Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston instead, which is an equally worthy choice!! This book truly gave me allll the feels – Alex and Henry have my entire heart and I would do anything for their happiness 😭 Also, as I mentioned above, I’d love to read this book and escape to a world where the 2016 U.S. presidential election had a different outcome and there was actually hope for the future :’) This book made me feel so happy and hopeful for the future, and I seriously can’t articulate how much of my heart belongs to this book ❤️💙
Never be so kind, you forget to be clever / Never be so clever, you forget to be kind 🎵
this song makes me so sad i mean this entire album does, but this song especially and the first two lines hit me real deep
Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman is such an emotional, heartwrenching, and powerful read about loss, grief, self-discovery, and healing. The main character, Rumi, lost her sister in a car accident and is sent to Hawaii to deal with her own grief. Throughout the book, Rumi is also questioning her own identity, and she realizes she’s ace and on the aromantic spectrum. Summer Bird Blue hurt so much to read, but it is truly such a beautiful book, with lovely characters. ☀️🕊🌊
Yes, I got your letter / Yes, I’m doing better / I know that it’s over / I don’t need your closure 🎼
the first time i heard this song i literally teared up so that’s where i’m at 😌✌🏼
I would absolutely LOVE to read more books from Madeline Miller – as I mentioned earlier, her writing in The Song of Achilles was simply exquisite and absolutely gorgeous, as was in Circe. Her writing is so atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful, and I could never get enough of it 😭 Honestly, if Madeline Miller wrote retellings of all the Greek myths, the world would be a better place ✨🏝☀️
And I couldn’t be sure / I had a feeling so peculiar / That this pain would be for / Evermore 🎶
this song broke me.
Aaaand The Midnight Star by Marie Lu also broke me💔 Okay but honestly, the entire Young Elites series was pain, but the ending of The Midnight Star definitely hit me hard. I’m not gonna spoil anything, but oMG aslkdfjsdlkjf Adelina skdjflksdjskldj 😭 This book is intriguing, emotional, captivating, and an absolute wild ride. Like, wow. What an end to a fantastic series.
Iris @ Countless Words with Iris // Lais @ The Bookish Skies // Aditi @ One in a Million // Ash @ Starlight Strands // Sophie @ Me & Ink // YOU (feel free to do this tag and tag me, I’d love to read your post! ☺️)
(Apologies if you’ve already done the tag! Since I only recently returned to the book blogging community a couple weeks ago, I’m not sure who has done the tag already haha. And of course, no pressure at all to do this tag! 💛)
Whew, this was a reallyyy long post!! If you actually read through the entire post and all of my ramblings, oMG, you’re amazing 😭 I’m giving you allll the virtual cookies (or whatever sweets you prefer haha) 🍪
This was super fun to write (I had evermore playing in the background the entire time I was writing hehe), and I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did writing it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to stream evermore for the 293849th time. 😌
Do you love Taylor Swift’s new albums, folklore and evermore, as much as I do? What are your favorite songs from these albums? I’d love to know 👀 (If it’s all of them, I understand, hehe.)
What did you think of my answers to these prompts? Have you read any of these books?
What’s your favorite Taylor Swift album? (I personally have been playing Lover on repeat for a while.)
I hope that y’all are taking care of yourselves in these turbulent times 💕 and if you haven’t already, stream evermore for self-care ✨
Let’s be friends!
